Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the IVth International Symposium on Heat Shock Proteins in Biology and Medicine. The meeting will take place at the Woods Hole Marine Biology Laboratory (MBL), November 3-6, 2008.

The primary focus of the meeting will be the role of heat shock proteins in cancer, and the immune and inflammatory responses.

The Keynote Speaker will be Susan Lindquist (Whitehead Institute). Other featured speakers will be Daniel Ciocca (Argentina), Carmen Garrido (France), Fred Goldberg (USA), Marja Jäättelä (Denmark), Cam Patterson (USA), Pramod Srivastava (USA), Noriyuki Sato (Japan), Paul Workman (UK), and many more. This will be small intimate meeting devoted to pathophysiological functions of the HSP family.

Woods Hole is a small fishing Village on Cape Cod in Massachusetts that houses the world famous Marine Biology Laboratory as well as the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. The MBL has a long and illustrious history in discoveries both in marine biology and cell biology in general and offers a unique environment for scientific discussion.

Society News

The Third International Congress in Budapest was a great success, thanks primarily to the vision and efforts of Chairman Peter Csermely and the local organization that he assembled. Peter is shown below receiving a certificate of appreciation from the CSSI Council during the meeting:

Emeritus Professor R. John Ellis FRS receiving the CSSI Medallion for 2007 from Professor Saskia van der Vies, representing the CSSI Council. John is an accomplished landscape photographer as well as a pioneer in chaperonin research. Go here to view two examples.
