Cell Stress Society International
Awards Presented During Business Meeting
CSSI President Larry Hightower received the 'Spirit of Budapest'
award for his contributions to international scientific cooperation. This
award was conceived and presented by Peter Csermely, Secretary/Treasurer
of CSSI. The award is named in honor of the spirit of friendship, collaboration
and open scientific exchange that was so characteristic of the Stress Of
Life Congress, held in Budapest, Hungary in 1997. This congress celebrated
the 90th birth anniversary of Hans Selye, the founder of the stress concept.
The proceedings of the congress were published as volume 851 of the Annals
of the New York Academy of Sciences. One of the goals of our society is
to keep this spirit of international cooperation alive in our field.
