As it is clear from the numbers of the financial report, the Society's finances were balanced in the fiscal year ending June 30th 1999. However, to keep up with the increasing costs and the acquisition of the journal Cell Stress & Chaperones, more corporate contributions and membership dues are needed in the future. Besides the costs of the establishment of the Society and some modest running costs, the largest expenditure was the costs of various brochures we mailed to more than 8000 perspective members individually and distributed in many conferences. This was necessary to establish our membership and to start the Society. We consider the student poster awards and the contributions to conferences as the most important expenditure of the Society which we would like to increase significantly if the Society income will allow us to do so.
Besides the mailing to our members we will also send inquiries to 4000-5000 scientists in the field to join to our Society by email or by regular mail. As a personal addition to the President's and President-Elect's report I would like to emphasize the creative atmosphere in the Council of the Society. Decisions were always made reaching a consensus and in this process the original idea always gained more and more important new details from the members of the Council.
Respectfully submitted,
Peter Csermely
Secretary/Treasurer, CSSI
